–          Ministry says closure because only two school aged children in area, but residents bring out 14From the mining community of Linden, now it seems to the Agricultural community of Moleson Creek more controversies seem to be brewing with the government at the centre of them all.Residents of the now neglected agricultural community of Moleson Creek located some 66 miles from New Amsterdam on the border line of the Corentyne River are now preparing for their fight with the government. They are displeased with the way they are being treated by the government, especially since they have been making continuous pleas for assistance. The once thriving agricultural and farming community, now being referred to as a jungle community, is now a symbol of desertion and neglect.  It was once a populated area with many thriving businesses and a top farming community. The residents are displeased with recent utterances by Region Six Education Officer, Shafiran Bhajan, that the school has been closed.  The residents said that they learnt of this development through the Kaieteur News publication of Saturday September 1. They plan to protest the untimely, unsavory and unilateral move by the Ministry of Education. They described the government, the Ministry of Education and the Regional Education Officer as uncaring and deceitful.“Which part of the world or country you hear people closing school? People are clamoring for more schools, and the government always boasting that they are opening more schools. Now what will they say? But we will fight it. We will protest the decision.  We have our ways and means to resist.“This is close to Suriname and this is an Agricultural, food producing area. So we are putting the government on notice.”They said that they were never told that the school was or will be closed. “Bhajan did not visit Moleson Creek proper; she stopped on the Corentyne highway and visited the stelling. We wanted her to visit the area; we want any government official to visit the area.”“They said that we only have two students of school age.” They mobilized the school age children and asked, “Are these only two students?”They are accusing the Regional Education officer of counting backwards.“She then said that she will make arrangements to have two teachers placed at the school as early as possible. We were shocked to read what was written in the Kaieteur News. There are more than two children at this school, about 20 are going to school right now and another 10 are willing to go, but their parents do not have money to send them as yet”.“No teacher wants to stay in the jungle.  Now instead of remedying the situation they are closing the school”. Are they serious? The resident said that a Mr. Alpha visited with Bhajan and promised to send a car to take the children to Crabwood Creek school until they find the two teachers. They said that Alpha promise to visit them at 07:30 hrs on Monday morning to have a follow up meeting, but did not show.As the students tried to fit in the car,Eddie Vanderdoes Womens Jersey, a resident asked, “Can somebody tell me how all these children could fit in this one car?”  The resident also said that it will cost them $4,000 a day to send their children to Crabwood Creek School, some six miles away. They are wondering what will happen to the Kindergarten children whose school dismisses at noon.“We never receive any voucher; the voucher is another scam and is given to rich people.”At Moleson Creek there is no electricity, running water, telephone, no markets or shops.  Because of these absences and the sad state of the road a lot of persons have deserted the area.Giving a back ground to the situation. The resident said the area was once well populated. But because of Government’s lack of foresight and no assistance people started to migrate. Then the government started to give out lands at the back of the area to people to plant cane. Those people don’t live here; they don’t care about us and our roads.  They started to use the big tractors and heavy duty equipment that really mash up the road.
